Model 710-ce

CYBER-FACELIFT
I visit the Taylor website just about every day, and obviously it was a big day when I discovered that the entire site had been completely overhauled. It looks great! My personal, preferred model is the 710ce, and I was anxious to see the new page for that model.

Thanks for keeping Taylor fans up-to-date with what's happening via the Web. While I'm on the subject, thanks also for the Taylor workshop program. Thanks to you guys, I heard (and met) Laurence Juber, Beppe Gambetta, Chris Proctor, Richard Leo Johnson, Stephen King, and Pat Kirtley (two years in a row at the 5th String store in Sacramento. Great job!

TONE-DRIPPING GOOD
I had been trying to do my "homework" before making such a large purchase. I couldn't afford to buy such an expensive instrument, and then changed my mind. I had tried out [several other brands], and they all had some great instruments. I also played a 514ce, 712ce, and a 710ce. Then, I played a new 25th Anniversary 710-BCE at Larry Morgan Music, in Garland Texas. I played it for 10 minutes, and I bought it!

Larry and his technician set up the action perfectly, and gave me some tips on maintenance. I also bought a humidifier for the guitar, which I use all the time, and check for dryness each day. I absolutely love this instrument. It literally drips tone. And even I find it relatively easy to play (compared to my electric). I also find that it is easy to play fingerstyle on this axe. It has so much volume that I don't have to pick as hard with my right hand fingers.

Even so (to quote the Beatles), "I've got blisters on my fingers!" from playing my new guitar so much. I also was pleased to receive the video showing Taylor's new neck-joint method [Taylor On Guitars: New Neck Designs]. I am an extremely happy and grateful customer. Thanks for making such a wonderful guitar.

FROM DISTRAUGHT TO SELF-TAUGHT
I recently bought a 710ce and was distraught to find that the truss rod was too tight. Being inexperienced with the woodwork of guitars, I remembered the Tech-Sheets that your website supplies to the public. I followed your instructions and proceeded to adjust my truss rod. It sounds great now. Thanks for your online help. I really appreciate it.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER
It is Christmas night (actually it's 1:15 in the morning of the 26th), and I thought I would share with you the most amazing Christmas I have ever had in my 38 years here on earth.

I have played the guitar for well over 20 years, and while I may not be the best guitar player in the world, I've had lot of fun playing with my friends, as well as several different bands over the years. I have been married for 14 years to a beautiful lady who shares my love for music, as well as a son who plays the electric guitar.

I started playing on a cheap model that was gone a long time ago, and switched over to [another brand] as my main guitar. A couple of years ago, I picked up [a different brand] to fiddle around with and play at my church.

I have always fantasized about owning a great guitar and had always thought that [another brand] was the way to go. Over the years, that fantasy seemed to drift further away, because of the costs of my home and raising two children. Last year, I met a guitarist who plays Taylors, Bob Somma, and he introduced me to the beauty of your instruments. I still never thought I would own one.

Unbeknownst to me, my wife and son got together and decided to not get any Christmas presents for themselves this year, in order to buy me a Taylor 710-CE. You can imagine my surprise on Christmas morning when my 14-year-old and my wife presented me with this guitar. I am writing this letter because I am so proud of my son for giving up any Christmas presents this year (although I gave him my old guitar), and I am so excited about this new Taylor that I haven't been able to put it down or get to sleep, even though I have been up since 4 a.m.

I just wanted to thank you for making such an excellent guitar, and also to brag about my wife and my son. From reading the history of Taylor Guitars, you guys understand guitars, as well as the sacrifice it takes to make them, own them, and play them. One day, I hope to meet Bob Taylor and thank him personally for the pleasure he has given me, and for helping my wife and son give me the best Christmas present I have ever received.

HIGH-FLYING COMMENTS
I am a musician and owner of two Taylors, a 710-CE and a 614-CE. First, I just got around to looking at your re-styled website. I love it. The FAQ page and online Tech-sheets are especially helpful features. Congratulations on a great job.

I'd like to add a comment about traveling by air [FAQ: "As a professional musician, I travel quite a bit...."]. As cabins grow more crowded, I find that the airlines, in general, are less sympathetic to musicians, and American Airlines in particular just doesn't make it easy. I used to carry a guitar in a heavy gig bag, because it took up less room in overhead storage. After some scary moments with flight attendants stuffing laptops around the neck, and a few unkind words from admittedly harried flight crews, I gave up. If I carry a guitar today, I carry it in the hardshell case, open the case to demonstrate its condition, check it as luggage, and expect the airline to do their job. So far, so good.

Second, I just attended a Doyle Dykes mini-concert/workshop in Arlington, Texas. What a thrill that was! Doyle was friendly, helpful, personable, and just a real pleasure to spend a couple of hours with. Keep doing what you're doing. As a 33-year veteran of guitar playing, I have a real love of great instruments and a respect for those who build them.

QUALITY STUFF, STAFF
I enjoyed the April 9 interview of co-founder and CEO, Kurt Listug, on KSDO radio [in San Diego]. I recently toured the Taylor Guitars plant, and found it very informative; it gave me a sense that my Taylor 710-CE was made by quality staff who love their jobs. The repair techs offered me an intonation check, and set the action a bit lower. Your staff is helpful and friendly. My Taylor 710-CE has a Sitka spruce top, which the tech shop said has a very high-grade, quarter-sawn cut, with a great tone. I love it.

Again, thanks for the great tour, and for your quality staff. I was a customer of [the pre-Taylor Guitars] American Dream shop, way back when you were neighbors of the Deering Banjo Company, which still is in Lemon Grove.

WHAT DREAMS MAY STRUM
I started playing the guitar over 30 years ago. Since then, I've had several guitars, but I could never afford that "dream guitar" I always wanted. About a year ago, after not playing much in the last 10 years, I resurrected this old guitar hobby of mine. I finally had the money to splurge on a great guitar. I went to our local guitar dealer, intending to buy that "dream guitar", which was supposed to be a [different brand] guitar. At the time, I had not heard of Taylor, but the salesman suggested I try the Taylors and make a comparison to the [other brand].

The first Taylor I picked up was a 710-CE and my heart was stolen! The quality of the tone and the neck action was far superior. Needless to say, I bought the Taylor 710-CE on the spot! Several months later, I received an unexpected bonus from my employer and immediately went back for another Taylor. This time I played the 912-C. Being a fingerstyle guitarist, I custom ordered the 912-C with the wider neck, and also went with the Florentine cutaway.

When I received the 912-C I was awestruck by the absolute beauty and craftsmanship! Taylor not only impressed me once, but twice! I now play my guitars every day, and have a renewed passion for advancing my skills as a guitarist. I've been to the Taylor Guitars workshops featuring Doyle Dykes and Stephen King, and found true inspiration in their playing styles. Doyle demonstrated a prototype of the

Doyle Dykes Signature Model. That may very well be the next Taylor I purchase!

Thank you Taylor for a lifetime of musical pleasure! Attached is a photo of my two Taylors. I thought your website viewers might enjoy seeing the custom Florentine option on the 912-C.
